Part II (9-2007)
Ode to Age
Your old man, I watched him
trying in vain--to enter into his apartment,
to open the entranceway with his hands together with key--which
summoned his brain, in vain;
no longer working with his eyes, at eighty-seven.
And there, there, in the yard adjacent to him
a boy of ten, their grandson, playing with his dog:
a couple lives changing, like summer and winter,
rain and snow; one watching the other grow old,
wanting to die; the other, youthful, hip to thigh,
loosed hair, waiting for another season to pass
so he'll grow up fast.
Note: No. 1994, Daniel and Papa Augusto, and pet Jason, in the garden, while the author sits relating to the platform watching. The clouds inside sky, darkening, it is actually Wednesday, about 4: 30 PM, 9-19-2007, Huancayo, Peru.
Passing by Suicide
(#(... and a long needle)
Suicide is much like a long needle inside heart--;
one looking to escape the slum with earth's dark.
Not seeing the high elm above their heads
(and spring being not far off);
consequently, they think to conquer life and death
in mere one breath!
Many ways to die, many coffins under
your sky;
dark shadows everywhere... so many pits
and flash floods in a normal life--
nevertheless after winter, there's usually spring:
too bad they can't notice, from where they stand.
